On the Phrase—“The Law and the Prophets”

SAINT Jerome, and the other fathers of the church, call the five books of Moses, The Law, because of Deuteronomy; and the books of the Prophets, or their Prophecies, The Prophets. All the other books are called Holy Writings. Hence the phrase of, “The Law and the Prophets,” is frequently made use of in the New Testament, and in the writings of the fathers.
