Backup Copy
I had no pressing need to upgrade my Movable Type installation to version 3.2, but, at a loose end yesterday morning, did so anyway. Alas, it didn’t go as smoothly as it might have, and I now rather wish I hadn’t, as somehow many of the non-plain-ASCII characters in my archives have been garbled. I’ll work at fixing these, but it may take a while, so please bear with me. Also, I’d be very surprised if the comments work at all until I’ve done some further tinkering. Luckily, I have a recent backup copy of the site to work from, courtesy of the excellent Mr. Morrison & his number 2 pencil…

Posted by: misteraitch on August 29, 2005 12:36 PMIf you don't us it already, get John Gruber's Smarty Pants plugin. It's one of the best (and only) MT plugins to deal with many commonly used special characters site-wide. And you don't even have to do anything differently. Just install it and watch it go (you may have to rebuild the first time out so that it fixes up old pages). If at some point you stop liking it, just delete it. It doesn't alter the content of anything you've entered in MT or anything commenters have entered in your forms. It only changes the static pages MT creates.
