Venetian Roofs

A Venice where gondolas come to rest on rooftops, and silhouettes float in the sky: this is the strange locale traced in words and pictures by Italian artist Daniele Scarpa Kos, in his tale Tetti Veneziani (‘Venetian Roofs’), a new addition here at SPAMULA.NET.

Besides the web-page, as linked above, I also made a 9-page, 4.6 Mb PDF version of it. The present images are details from the tale’s illustrations: click on them to see the images in full.

Very beautiful. I'll have to translate the Italian somehow. Your pdf is 4.7mb but when run through Adobe Acrobat Pro, I have it down to 1.2mb with no noticeable decline in screen quality. Would you care to have it to save on your bandwidth and viewers' download times should they not have high speed?

John—I’m not worried about bandwidth, but, for anyone on a slow connection who wants a smaller (but necessarily lower-quality) copy of the PDF, here’s one that’s 652Kb.

Salve,

lovely pictures, I'm afraid I'm also unable to read Italian if any of the wonderfully talented and generous people who frequent this site is able to supply a translation I for one would appreciate it.

Paul.

PS as a fan of Steven Jay Gould, I was hoping that the rooftops of Venice would include at least a glimpse of the notorious 'Spandrels' of San Marco (see http://ethomas.web.wesleyan.edu/wescourses/2004s/ees227/01/spandrels.html ) but clearly its the exteriors rather than the interiors which feature in the story, one can only dream...

nicely subdued-but-spooky drawings, seductive and chilly.

Daniele is one of my very favorite artists in the world; his dreamlike art literally stopped me in my tracks when I was exploring a side alley in Venice! This new work expresses all the mystery and charm of that singular city. I only wish there was more of Daniele's work on the web...
If I could have my choice of any artist in the world to have a two-person exhibit with, Daniele is in my top three list. Maybe someday.
