I’ve been short on time & out of ideas this past week, and am likely to be busy for a few weeks more, so I’ll be taking an extended break from writing this Giornale. As a parting shot, here is one more enigmatic image from Johann Theodor de Bry’s Proscenium vitæ humanæ sive Emblematum Secularium (previously mentioned here): I’ve no idea what it’s supposed to represent…

Here's hoping the "extended break" doesn't turn into a permanent one.
You'll be missed while you're gone.

Posted by: mjones on November 6, 2004 05:44 AMAs I understand, 1111 is your (highly symmetrical) birthday. Happy Birthday misteraitch!
Posted by: banubula on November 12, 2004 10:21 AMThanks! yes: unfortunately my mother was unable to deliver at 11:11, & I only made an appearance just before midnight.
Posted by: misteraitch on November 12, 2004 10:41 AMI suppose it has something to do with avarice.
Hiantes could be a word play (meaning either open or greedy). The caption seems to mention something like being blinded by money.
Thanks for the puzzle :-)
Posted by: Claudia on November 14, 2004 08:58 PMI stumbled onto a page of yours several months ago. I believe I was searching for holocaust pears. the work of Samuel Bak. I was fascinated by what I found and asked myself repeatedly "what is this" a page flouting out there packed full of the most interesting stuff.
In my entheusiasm I gave links to this page to several people.
I came back looking for that page again today only to find that it wouldn't open....however, with some creative techno skills I was able to find your site in earnest.
My hat is off to you. Such a collection of visual treats you have given. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Posted by: Janisse on November 19, 2004 05:11 PMDitto to the previous comment by Janisse. The last picture on your page "Johann Theodor de Bry’s Proscenium vit human sive Emblematum Secularium" represents the hoards of people that are willing to crawl up rich (or privileged) people's asses. How is that for a blunt and simplistic interpretation!
